Overview
Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour is always a good idea for your vacation in Nepal because it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour is an exclusive tour in the national park of Chitwan, which is a home to many rare and endangered birds and animals. It is located in the central lowlands of Nepal, covering an area of 932 square kilometers. The park is comprised of floodplains of Narayani Rapti, dense elephant grass intertwined in the forest with varieties of silk, cotton, acacia and sisam trees, along with the deciduous Sal forest in the upper hill areas. The Chitwan National Park is a sanctuary to animals like the one-horned rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, sloth bear, leopards and rhesus monkeys along with 530 different species of birds. The park has been enlisted in the world heritage site by UNESCO since 1984 A.D. due to its diverse ecology with thriving flora and fauna.
In Chitwan, jungle safari is safest on an elephant’s back that is trained by their herders. Another way is by a jeep ride that takes you very deep into the jungle, which also increases your chance of an encounter with more species of birds and animals. Some common sightings in the jungle include deer, rhinoceros, and sloths, while sights of royal Bengal tiger and leopards are very rare. The park can also be toured by canoeing through the rivers crossing the jungle. In the canoe trips, you can find many gharials basking in the sun in the riverbanks, along with occasional birds and animals dropping by to quench their thirst or take a bath in the river. The national treasure of Chitwan is also a home to many migrants as well as local species of birds and a paradise for bird watchers. Birds like herons, egrets, storks, cranes, woodpeckers, hawks, falcons, ospreys, parakeets, ibises, kites, cuckoos, kingfisher, ducks, swallows, orioles are few to name among many species found in the jungle.
Chitwan National Park Tour can also be enjoyed by exploring the cultural part of Chitwan. The tour includes an excursion in the Tharu village of Chitwan. Tharu are one of the oldest and largest ethnic groups of people indigenous to the lowlands of Nepal. Their settlement areas are exquisitely made up of mud with dung plastered on the walls. Tharus are also known to have comparatively gained some resistant to malaria after living for years in dense dark forests in malaria-prone zones of Nepal. Their culture is rich and you can see it with their cultural dance performance, also known as the ‘stick dance’.
